Character Counts and Scouting's about building it!
Here are a few things that Cub Scout Pack 100 has been doing. I'll be posting more as time and Kodak permit.

Following in the footsteps of my father and being an Eagle Scout myself I feel Scouting builds strong leaders of high moral and ethical character for tomorrow.
Along with a handful of other active and committed parents back in 1998 we started Cub Scout Pack 100 of which I hold the position of Cubmaster and Den Leader for my son's Webelos den. Scouting is a wonderful way to spend time with your son(s), watching them learn and grow into young men.
I can't tell you what I got for most of my birthday's and Christmases over the years, but I do remember hiking with my dad along the Erie Canal and building Pinewood Derby cars together with him! |

To Help Other People
Led by Committee Chairman, professional painter and all around good guy Dan Arvidson, Pack 100 repaints the 5 Portable Classrooms of Academy Edison Elementary School which not only helps the school and the school district, but brightens the neighborhood!
Ian & Garrett with Cubmaster Dave present Principal, Jenifer Jones, a plaque of appreciation for chartering Pack 100.

A Cub Scout Gives Goodwill
The final line in the Cub Scout "Law of the Pack" is demonstrated by a number of Cubs, brothers, sisters and parents of Pack 100 by cleaning up our chartering organization, Academy Edison Elemenatary School's grounds on a Saturday. |

Duty To Country
Webelos Dens 7 & 8 (Wolverines & Hawks) learn about the American flag, its heritage, its history, the honor it deserves and hold opening and closing ceremonies during a pack meeting.

Pinewood Derby Cars of the Past
Built by my dad (who's an Aerospace Engineer) with nothing more than a palm sander, a rat tail file and sheer determination, Mario Finklestein took 3rd Place in overall pack competition at Fort Foote Elementary School, Maryland.
During the 2001 Vintage Car leader's race it took 1st by an (embarrassingly) wide margin which lead to the ugly plotting for revenge in the 2002 races where I was put back in my humble little place.
The Outhouse of Doom saw racing action during the 2001 leader's bracket. Oddly enough I can't remember how it placed--only that it was pretty crappy...

The Cub Scout Promise
On MY HONOR I Promise to Do My Best, to Do My Duty to God and My Country, to Help Other People and to Obey The Law of The Pack.
"The Promise" -- Trip Uhalt, Eagle Cubmaster BSA Cub Scout Pack 100 Pikes Peak Council, CO
Cub Scouting's about leadership, learning and fun. It's about screaming and hollering and laughing a ton!
It's about friendship and memories and smiles that we've had...
It's hikes in the forest and getting lost with my dad!
It's knot tying, kite flying, selling popcorn for cash...
It's eating campout cooking that oughta be trash!
It's toilet paper roll Cubbies on our Christmas tree,
Snipe hunting in the woods and needing to...
Peas and carrots mom packed for the trail,
don't make it much farther than the Den's garbage pail.
It's meetings, awards and patch sewing by mom.
It's campouts and campfires and staying up until dawn!
Cub Scouting's about Honor and Character and Truth.
It shapes how we treat others and all that we suit.
It's about challenging ourselves, and when put to the test,
we'll hold our heads high and then "Do Our Best."
It's about "Doing my duty" if asked, ... or by choice,
for "God and my country", you WILL hear my voice.
"Helping other people," and doing good deeds like that,
is how we get started and rotate our Bobcat.
I'll BE a Cub Scout 'til I've had my fill,
but I'll never grow tired of "giving goodwill!"
The Scout path is long, but filled with adventure,
it teaches a lot--from caring, adult mentors.
There's something about a Cub Scout you see,
he's a little boy right now, but a man he'll soon be...
A man of Character, of Honor, of Trust.
He's tomorrow's next leader--invest in him much!
It starts with a promise that "I'll do my best,"
then his commitment and character take care of the rest.
